A Yonkers school bus operator, under new ownership.
Astra Transportation Corp serves students and families across Westchester County. We're a small company by design — about 75 buses, 13 schools, 400 students, and 150 employees out of our Yonkers depot.
Under new ownership
Astra was acquired in November 2025. The new owners are hands-on, on-site, and rebuilding the company from the inside out.
Things look familiar from the curb: the same yellow buses, many of the same drivers and monitors who've served these routes for years, the same neighborhoods, the same schools. But behind the scenes a lot is changing — how we dispatch routes, how we train and support our team, how we communicate with parents and schools, how we hold ourselves to the standards we set.
Some of the change you'll see right away. Much of it will take time and won't be visible at all — quieter improvements to safety, training, and reliability that compound day after day.
What we're focused on
- Doing the basics very well. Buses run on time. Drivers and monitors show up trained, supported, and respected. Routes reflect the morning and afternoon a student actually has, not last year's.
- Investing in our team. Drivers and monitors are the people who deliver this service — every day, in every weather. Their training, equipment, and working conditions decide whether the rest of it works.
- Using technology where it helps, quietly. GPS on every bus, AI-assisted safety cameras, modern dispatch tools. The tech is there to make service safer and more reliable, not to be a talking point.
- Being a good neighbor. Astra has been part of Westchester for years. Our depot is in Yonkers. Our team is local.
